Can you imagine the power of God? Can you imagine the authority of Him who spoke all things into existence? How incomprehensible. I’m amazed at the idea, no, the reality, of that. Can you imagine the hands of God holding the universe in the palm of His hand? Honestly? Can you? I can’t. Think about that. The Bible says that the heavens are the work of His hands. I have so much trouble doing any small thing with my hands, I can’t even begin to think about the idea of the universe being ordained and crafted into perfection. That’s too much for me.
Funny how often we can run ourselves to death, day in and day out, thinking the destiny of the universe depends on the excellence of our performance. Well let me encourage you… sit back, take a deep breath, and relax. It’s OK. You don’t have to worry anymore… the universe is in better hands. The best hands. God’s hands. You can have successes and… you can have times when you fail. It’s alright. God doesn’t hold the universe in His hands hoping and praying to Himself that you nail everything perfectly, as if His sovereignty depends on you. He has NEVER depended on us. Never.
Here’s the thing… God holds the universe, the Christian, the God haters, the terrorists, the Indians, caucasians, African Americans, birds, cars, buildings, lakes, coral reefs, Mars, distant stars, black holes, etc… He holds it all. He will always hold it all. God is God regardless of what’s going on. He is unstoppable, unshakeable, unswerving… He is perfectly stable in and of Himself. Now… knowing that, might you want to take a little break and just rest in that truth? Just know that He is God. Since He is God, perfect in all possible attributes, He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything… He has it all. So it’s even more awesome when He makes an offer such as “come unto me…”.
Maybe it’s hard to see that the God of all things, the One who sits in an unapproachable light, invites you into His presence and peace. I understand… that makes sense. Kind of hard to imagine that. So here’s what He does… He stoops down to our level and makes His shocking offer to us slightly more comprehendible for our human minds to grasp. He becomes one of us through the God-man, Jesus Christ. And what does He do? He graciously reveals God’s love to us all the while perfectly fulfilling the duties of obedience and love to God, that we humans have never been able to accomplish. Through Christ alone there is finally a oneness and unity between God and man that only existed in the first days b/f “the fall”. Finally. There is rest, and there is no other rest like the rest found in Christ. Successes, financial rewards, dreams come true, family, cars, stardom, kingdoms, power, nothing will bring you rest like the rest we find in the God that holds the universe.
Friends… today… I encourage you to trust God, through Christ Jesus our Lord. Schoolteachers, chemical plant workers, artists, moms, dads, daughters, sons, adulterers, drunkards, sexual offenders, murderers, drug addicts, blind, homeless, wealthy, virgins, soldiers, everybody… God has graciously rolled out the red carpet pointing straight to Himself, for our restful benefit and His well deserved glory. He has done that. Will you trust Him today? Regardless of how blue or how dark your horizon may seem… rely, hope, and depend, fully, on the sovereign God, by exercising faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. He’s always held the universe perfectly together, He is presently holding it, and He will always be holding it, still speaking:

“Let the children come to me: do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them…” (Mark 10: 14-16)
